Ovulation disorders

In this group exists all the occurring disorders that prevent the release of eggs from the ovary so as to be able to be fertilized by the sperm. Patients who suffer from these disorders usually do not have regular menstrual cycles.

Classically, the ovulation disorders are divided into three types:

  1. Failure at the Hypothalamus level. The hypothalamus is a structure found at the central nervous system’s level and it is responsible for releasing a substance that initiates the process of ovulation. In these cases, patients may spend one or more months without showing their menstrual period. Some frequent disorders are caused by: stress, anorexia and excessive exercise.
  2. Altered in the hypothalamus coordination with the ovaries. The most common disorder found in this group is called polycystic ovary, and is the most common cause of ovulation disorders in the Mexican population (85%). Women who suffer from this problem can also go through a month or so without presenting menstruation, often have trouble losing weight and can therefore be overweight, and can have body hair excess and / or acne.
  3. Early menopause or premature ovarian failure. These women stop menstruating at early ages, before the age of 40, since their ovaries completely lose the ability to produce eggs. This usually happens in women over 40 and it is known as menopause. The causes of early menopause are many, but in most cases it is hard to discover its origin.

What solutions are there in cases of ovulation disturbances?

Women who suffer from alteration type 1, should be treated according to the cause, it is to say that eating disorder should be corrected in the case of anorexia, and physical exertion should be reduce in cases of excessive exercise or receive proper handling of stress.

In cases of patients with polycystic ovary the most appropriate option to conceive, is the ovulation’s induction.

The alternative in cases of advanced maternal age and / or premature ovarian failure is the egg donation of a woman between 20 and 35 years old who has ruled out the existence of sexually transmitted diseases and congenital diseases.
