Tubal disorders and / or pelvic disorders

15% of the conception problems concerns to the ones related to the fallopian tubes and tubes for clogged or damaged with scarring.

Due to the importance for the conception, and for the unblocked fallopian tubes and the healthy ones, the tests used to determine the permeability (openness) from the fallopian tubes are important. The tubal factors and / or the peritoneal factors are the cause of about 35% of all infertility problems. If the hysterosalpingography (HSG) shows tubal obstruction, may have had an scar tissue. Your doctor may perform a laparoscopy to determine if adhesions have been formed on the outer surface of the tubes and how much to interfere with tubal function.

Due to some technical problems, HSG or laparoscopy may erroneously indicate obstruction of the fallopian tubes, it may be necessary to perform both tests so as to have a proper evaluation of the fallopian tubes.

Laparoscopy is an important part of a comprehensive assessment of infertility and should not be unnecessarily delayed, especially in patients of advanced reproductive age. In younger patients, however, the doctor may postpone a laparoscopy if the HSG shows opened tubes or if another problem is being treated. Moreover, if pregnancy does not occur within six to twelve months of treatment, the laparoscopy is almost always performed.

If the tubes are blocked, scarred or damaged, sometimes the problem can be corrected by surgery. Although most tubal problems are correctable with surgery, women with severely damaged fallopian tube may have few chances for a pregnancy, and therefore a surgery on them is rarely attempted. If this is the case, in vitro fertilization (IVF) offers the best hope for a successful pregnancy.
